@ernest, we love you man, and we're grateful for the service you provide. But this site has needs that can't be met by one person: community mod approval, emergency status communication, spam management, and account management are just a few that immediately come to mind....
I'm moving over to Mbin (hopefully ernest can sort kbin out, but until then), and id like to bring my subscriptions over without manually doing it. any methods? thanks
I’m honestly kind of thrilled, I assumed DC vs. Marvel and Amalgam would be lost to the dustbin of history.
Let's fight the spam by submitting actual science stories
Hello. I will be taking fedia.io offline on Saturday, Feb 3 to rehome it to a different server. Since moving fedia.io to a container-based platform, federation has been very unreliable and slow. I'll be moving to a non-container-based/bare metal install, which should address the federation issues.
I've been recommended some communities on Lemmy servers, but when I go to kbin.social/m/community_name@server, I get a 404. What do I need to do for a community to get federated?
So im pretty happy with users just being able to block and control things themselves but there has been posts from this somali call girls account where I feel like the extra step of reporting is warranted.
i don't want spam or posts against the rules to be showing up on other sites like lemmy because the deletion on kbin isn't federated, it feels irresponsible to me and will make the community look bad. can i delete a magazine?
I’m blocking probably hundreds of mags (all mags on Cloudflare sites like lemmy.world). The results of search queries are rich in posts from blocked mags. When I visit the post the sidebar shows that indeed that mag is blocked....
I never played CoH, but this is neat.

With decentralized content and federated services growing in popularity, many existing web technologies are adopting the ActivityPub open standard. Services like Meta’s Threads, Tumblr, Medium, Flipboard, Mozilla, and WordPress.com have all added or announced support of ActivityPub, allowing for their content to be accessible...
I tried to block a couple communities from reaching my timeline and got the 500 error. These are the URLs the browser tried to visit when clicking the “block” button:...

Posting pictures from Lemmy.world since I still have trouble uploading on Kbin, but sometimes the pictures don't appear as a thumbnail on Kbin regardless of how long I wait for it to federate. Clicking on it still opens the direct image link, but there's no thumbnail when scrolling past in the feed. Is there a max image size or...
When I try to DM someone on the jlai.lu lemmy instance, I get “403 Forbidden”....
Sorbonne University has been deeply committed to the promotion and the development of open science for many years. According to its commitment to open research information, it has decided to discontinue its subscription to the Web of Science publication database and Clarivate bibliometric tools in 2024. By resolutely abandoning...
After a long silence from the developer, project moderators stepped down. The mobile app for Kbin appears to have closed its doors.
5 years after its announcement, Mobilizon, our free, federated alternative to Facebook groups and events, is reaching maturity. We take this opportunity to look back on its history and future. 🦆 VS 😈: Let's take back some ground from the tech giants! Thanks to your donations to our not-for-profit, Framasoft is taking...
Researchers say that the model behind the chatbot fabricated a convincing bogus database, but a forensic examination shows it doesn’t pass for authentic.
As the volcano in Iceland threatens to erupt any minute now, some social media users are falsely claiming the fumes from the natural disaster will generate more CO2 than all of the cars and airplanes on earth. #TheCube
On desktop kbin is 5x better than vanilla lemmy....
