wjmaggos, to random This updated page about the BBC's experiment with the #fediverse is great and it's where we should point every journalist who has questions about joining us here. The only thing holding us back from becoming "the social network for news" is that we just don't have critical mass yet. And as much as we might try to do it ourselves, it's going to take journalists convincing other journalists to invest here. Luckily, they are the perfect people to make that case, eventually.

fediversereport, to random Last Week in #fediverse - ep 41
- The Verge has some ideas about publishing content, and how this relates to the fediverse
- Can Owncast create new opportunities now that Twitch does not forbid streamers from simultaneously streaming to different platforms?
- Hearts or stars?

SamXavia, to fediverse I've been testing out Mbin on the kbin.run instance and it sure feels faster but it also feels empty and I'm pretty sure it's because Kbin / Mbin requires someone to have searched for a user or community/magazine before you can actually see it. Seems like this could hinder smaller instances in the long run.
zalasur, to random It looks like #Peertube is getting some free press lately, so now is a good time to let everybody know again that I have a peertube instance at https://video.surazal.net
My main account is at @zalasur which you can follow from Mastodon.
I do mainly live streams there but I also upload my canning and fractal zoom videos as well, and whatever else I feel like doing 😄
smallcircles, to random 🤩 Aren't you just delighted by all those proprietary software apps for the #Fediverse?
😮 Don't be. Each time you choose proprietary you help turn the fedi slowly in the direction of the usual corporate hellscape that the rest of the Web already is.
😨 And then we end up in an online space where for years we can complain to each other how we squandered an opportunity and how #capitalism won once more.
🎯 Use #FOSS apps instead, created by the public for the public.
🌻 Keep the Fediverse open.
box464, to random Managing hashtags submitted with an #ActivityPub note is not as simple as you'd think. Hashtags are collected into a separate node in the Note object.
Firefish and Friendica for example, have their hashtag entry below the content. You've got to do cartwheels to combine those with any a user may have added in the note text itself, removing duplicates.
Then ensure you maintain the integrity of the note text but also add any missing tags so they are visible to end users.

mammoth, to random The “next Twitter” might not be decided by its app but by its protocol. #activitypub #mastodon
fediversereport, to random Last Week in #fediverse - ep 38
- #mastodon releases their annual report for 2022, providing an interesting insight in their financials, as well as what they accomplished last year. The amount of work they managed with the means they have is absolutely impressive.
- Work on the closed beta for mozilla.social server continues, with some interesting glimpses of their plans.

ramblingreaders, to random Do you know there's a #fediverse alternative to Amazon-owned #Goodreads? #BookWyrm is a social network for tracking your reading, writing reviews, and discovering what to read next. You can follow and interact with users on different #BookWyrm instances and on #Mastodon. You can import from a Goodreads CSV export. You can create private shelves and curated lists. Join us at https://ramblingreaders.org or choose one of the other instances available #books #reading #bookstodon @bookstodon
thomas, to random This tool lets me monitor the #ActivityPub federation traffic from/to my Mastodon instance metalhead.club.
You can clearly see the other server locations - mainly in the US and Europe.
The tool is not ready for the public, but once it's finished and stable, I'll let you know :)
devs, to random 🤔 Did you know there’s a W3C Social Web Community Group? @haubles interviewed their latest member in this sit-down with #ActivityPub enthusiast @casey.
