stefan, to random "We urgently need a solution that gives our government officials the power to reach everyone, and more control over the way they connect with the citizens."

evan, to random OK, I've got a question for #ActivityPub developers. I'm working on an extended example for the O'Reilly Media book I'm writing, focusing on the federation protocol. I'm going to cover using HTTP Signature, handling and sending the important set of Activity types defined in the AP spec (Follow, Create, Add, ...).
fediblogs.wordpress.com, to random Great to see the ActivtyPub Plugin continue on a fast development timeline:
The WordPress ActivityPub plugin has been updated to version 2.0. The major feature of the release is better comment federation. Comments are now properly threaded, which makes it much easier to follow and understand threads where people are replying to each other. Comments are now also bidirectionally federated. Creator @pfefferle explains:
“When you respond to comments from the fediverse on your blog, they will now be federated. This allows you to finally engage in (threaded) communication back and forth directly from the comment section of your blog!”

andypiper, to random With the news that Meetup.com has been swallowed up by Bending Spoons (with a track record of strip mining good tools to their doom), a #fediverse alternative to explore is Mobilizon @mobilizon https://joinmobilizon.org/en/
josemurilo, to random "ActivityPub and ATProto break #siloing in different ways.
#ActivityPub is built around URLs and can "socialise" more or less anything on the Web, which is great, but they don't touch the underlying substrate—either you run your own server or you…are at the mercy of an admin.
#ATProto, on its side, provides a good initial foundation for an extensible #PDS designed around user agency and credible exit.
…you can be guaranteed to be able to take your content elsewhere."

mike, to random One of my favorite parts of this interview with @tchambers is when he wraps up with his 2024 predictions for the #Fediverse and #ActivityPub including the things he's looking for as this crucial election year plays out. He gives a sweeping and insightful summary of the most important efforts now underway which will bear fruit this year.

Flipboard, to random @tchambers, author of the Twitter Migration report and admin of indieweb.social, is an internet steward everyone should know. In this podcast with @mike, Tim expounds on social media’s thorniest issues and explains how the Fediverse offers a better social home than anything we've had before.

Imperor, to random I am working on ridding myself of the part of my mind that has been so poisoned by "hustle-culture" and all that nonsense that leads to me being ashamed of those creative or artistic endeavors that do not end up earning any money (or have no potential for it).
Stopped me from writing for years. Kept me from indulging in story telling and even reading.
Dear #fediverse what are your strategies for dealing with such a horrid mindset?

hrefna, to random The thing about the 'Big fedi, small fedi' article is that it sets up a false dichotomy.
I think that the fediverse can be very big and also much safER than extant social media (or the fediverse as it sits today).
Moderation can require a human touch and moderation can also be rendered much less necessary by automated tools (note I didn't say "we can do moderation by automated tools," I'm making a very nuanced distinction between moderation and other safety tools).
etc.
1/
MisuseCase, to meta All these folks tut-tutting about various #fediverse instances preemptively blocking #threads should be aware that many instances are taking this step because Threads is full of #transphobic and outright fascist types that #meta is either unable or unwilling to moderate and instance admins are just treating it the same way they would any other instance that has that issue.
ErictheCerise, 90+% of instances should be blocking Threads just because of their normal moderation policy, not because "it's Meta".
The question people should be asking is, why aren't instances blocking Threads, when it clearly violates their content policy? (Lookin' at you Mastodon.social)
box464, to random The number of Misskey forks continues to expand. How do we mention them collectively? I'm veering toward Forkeys, as in "Catodon is the latest Forkey to enter the stage." or "The Forkeys have one thing in common - emoji reactions."
I suggest checking them all out - each has their own strengths. :blobcatstrong:
