atomicpoet, to random Sometimes I like to make jokes about how every time Big Social does something that doesn't please their userbase, the #Fediverse grows. We've seen this happen with Twitter and Reddit before, and now it seems like #YouTube is also experiencing this trend.
YouTube's recent unfriendliness towards ad blockers has led to the rise of PeerTube. It's interesting to note that PeerTube servers like @MakerTube are now requesting additional resources to accommodate the influx of new #PeerTube users, many of whom are adamant about not making any exceptions for YouTube in their ad blocker software.
It's fascinating to see that the Fediverse is currently going through a #YouTubeMigration.

wendinoakland, to random Thank you, #fediverse for being measured, interesting, diverting, reasonable, funny, intriguing, challenging, and, when necessary, blockable. #WhatIsHappening #hello
hvdsomp, to random I’m pretty happy with the way things are evolving here on the #fediverse It’s not the same people that I used to meet where I used to hang. But different doesn’t mean less interesting. I’ve discovered some very very cool stuff here that I was totally unaware off in the Xuniverse.
kyonshi, to random it's actually funny, it took the #fediverse #wordpress plugin to finally do some stuff with my #blog @gmkeros.wordpress.com@gmkeros.wordpress.com again, and it doesn't even properly work with my instances.
I finally fixed some articles up that I had in my drafts for months, if not years, and scheduled them out for the next week.

noellemitchell, to random Every time I try to post or do anything on my @noellem account it gives me an error message. It seems to have issues with loading the home feed, account profiles, and my notifications. I'm considering deleting the account if it lets me do that. 😆 I don't use the account anyway and I now have my @noelleification.wordpress.com@noelleification.wordpress.com profile I can use. 😁
I'm just wondering if I'll be able to delete it with all of the error messages 😅
testing, @noellemitchell
f.s has been in trouble since may 2023 when it still was called calckey.social > problems were so heavy by then that calckey lead dev t1c came up with the idea to rebrand the whole project because the flagship instance's non-performance had started to tarnish the project's reputation > after the transpicuous rebranding, no substantial changes > even atomicpoet moved away from f.s, but without revealing his true motives > f.s is not a flagship, but a shipwreck
derthomas, to random
derthomas, @db0 I don't doubt that there are very active communities, but all "my" communities are not, unfortunately.
db0, @derthomas In my experience, all it takes is one dedicated poster to get things going. You can try to crosspost stuff from reddit when appropriate, which will attract more people. No easy solutions except doing something about it.
rwg, to random Latest #FOSSAcademic blog post: on #ActivityPub, the Non-Standard Standard.
https://fossacademic.tech/2023/10/15/APnonStandard.html
This is based on a presentation I'll be giving at #AoIR2023. It discusses 4 key ways ActivityPub is not a standard standard.
Comments welcome! You can comment on it by (publicly) responding to this Mastodon post.
smallcircles, to random 🤩 Aren't you just delighted by all those proprietary software apps for the #Fediverse?
😮 Don't be. Each time you choose proprietary you help turn the fedi slowly in the direction of the usual corporate hellscape that the rest of the Web already is.
😨 And then we end up in an online space where for years we can complain to each other how we squandered an opportunity and how #capitalism won once more.
🎯 Use #FOSS apps instead, created by the public for the public.
🌻 Keep the Fediverse open.
binaryhelix, @smallcircles @mativity other than directly naming explaining to non-geeky people which iOS apps are proprietary and which are FOSS, what alternative communication strategy do you think might be helpful?
Brendanjones, @smallcircles which iOS clients are FOSS? I'd happily choose a FOSS option over proprietary if it had feature and design parity with the existing options (or near to it, and I could meaningfully contribute).
I wonder what stops app developers building open? It's such a cutthroat space, could code stealing (without attribution) be a concern leading them to take the easier option of closed code?
veronica, to random When people make a joke, and you just happen to know an exception to the joke, there is no need to make a "well actually" post. Yes, we all realise you can use a search engine. Here, have a cookie.
IT'S A JOKE! ENJOY IT!
Example:
https://mastodon.online/@trs@metasocial.com/109343732202623124
Edit: I'm talking about people who argue why the joke is technically wrong rather than enjoying it. I thought that was obvious, but clearly not.
mray, @veronica :troll: Well, actually there are exceptions to this: you can point out extra facts that even add to the joke.
Do I get a cookie now :ablobcatbongo:
veronica, @mray Ok, agree on this. Adding to a joke is a different matter. I meant people who argue against a joke. A "well actually" generally is an argument.
steinbring, to kbinMeta I have been following @milwaukee and @wisconsin from kbin.social and I noticed that starting around a week ago or so, I can post to the communities but new posts and comments don't make it from midwest.social to kbin.social. Is there a federation issue? Was something recently broken?
quortez, @steinbring can you see this?
steinbring, @quortez I can
fenarinarsa, to random PeerTube just added a way to reupload a new version of a video in the user interface. :bloboro:
Will be released in PeerTube 6.

reiver, to random There is a fork of Mastodon that has a bunch of features I know many people wish Mastodon had:
• longer posts,
• more poll choices,
• favicon update from web console,
• markdown support,...
I wonder if it is a soft-fork or a hard-fork. I.e., are they still pulling in all the latest Mastodon code.
box464, to random Managing hashtags submitted with an #ActivityPub note is not as simple as you'd think. Hashtags are collected into a separate node in the Note object.
Firefish and Friendica for example, have their hashtag entry below the content. You've got to do cartwheels to combine those with any a user may have added in the note text itself, removing duplicates.
Then ensure you maintain the integrity of the note text but also add any missing tags so they are visible to end users.
