You generally seem to need to have at least 1 account from that instance subscribed to your magazine for federation to kick in (which then still can take a bit of time). Same works the other way around. The unfortunate thing is that you kinda have to use external community / magazine indexers to search for them, unless you know the exact name & instance domain they're in, since a search won't find non indexed ones by itself.
Imo one of the largest issues regarding the fediverse.
It definitely does not block threads from those instances showing up. For example I have lemmy.ml blocked that way and I still get the occasional lemmy.ml threads pop up and have to manually block all the different communities on that instance.
That makes no sense to me. Imagine blocking users would work the same way and it would just remove links to their profile, but not the stuff the account posts.
For a while now all video threads are basically just opening a screenshot of the video when you expand them instead of opening the video itself. I noticed this both for YouTube and Catbox hosted videos and you now have to first open the thread itself, and then click on the actual link of the title to open the actual page where...
You literally can't do it. If you try, you just get an error message. Pretty much anything from hexbear.net is unblockable. Which is really unfortunately, because it is one of the worst instances out there.
Blocking instances on kbin / mbin does not work though. You will still see the communities threads & users (and getting to that page in the first place is a hassle too since there's no link to it).
When I look at https://fedia.io/all/newest right now there seems to be very little getting through today, with only 3 new threads in the past 10 hours....
One comment in one of the kbin threads of a guy who hosts his own forked instance said it's probably caused by a Lemmy update, which I guess makes sense. kbin and mbin aren't the same code wise (can't even use the nsfw unblur here), and kbin is also a version ahead of mbin so they might just handle the same issue differently. A lot of the magazines / communities I checked have their latest threads from like a week ago when viewed through fedia. kbin ironically has similar examples, but different ones to fedia. Whatever the cause, it obviously shines a negative light on any 'bin instance and to a degree onto the fediverse. For me, I would really like to avoid having to deal with the shitty Lemmy UI and support the Lemmy devs directly.
New magazine doesn't federate with Lemmy? (fedia.io)
First of all, sorry if this magazine is not the correct place for such questions....
Whee! How a year passes… (fedia.io)
It has been a year since I ditched the big “/r”....
Blocking instances (a suggestion) (fedia.io)
I'm coming from kbin. It used to be that when I blocked an instance, I wouldn't see any posts or comments from users on that instance....
What happened to embedded videos? (fedia.io)
For a while now all video threads are basically just opening a screenshot of the video when you expand them instead of opening the video itself. Is anyone else finding it impossible to block anything from hexbear.net? (fedia.io)
You literally can't do it. If you try, you just get an error message. Pretty much anything from hexbear.net is unblockable. Which is really unfortunately, because it is one of the worst instances out there.
Lemmy once again isn't federating properly? (fedia.io)
I get the threads, but there's no votes, no replies. Nothing. None of my comments show up anywhere if I look at the original instances....
Federation is more broken than usual (fedia.io)
