Account creation issue (lemmy.world)

When trying to register, I fill out a username, email, and password (copy/pasted from a password manager, so no chance of mistyping). I complete the captcha, check the consent box, click register, and... nothing. Page refreshes, but there's no errors displayed or anything. I've tried resetting my password, but I never get an...

I'm not sure where the guys are right now or if you still having that issue but it is likely related to the CDN news from a few days ago, which seems to be the cause for some other issues too.

Edit: There it goes. Still curious if this affected less obvious instances too though.

Did this break federation with lemmynsfw? I just noticed a lack of certain posts on /all, and after double checking it seems there hasn't been anything federated for 4 days.

Embedded videos finally stop & unload when you close them!

Do those specific servers have any specific hardware that would indicate why they fail so much? Do they cheap out on something?

You generally seem to need to have at least 1 account from that instance subscribed to your magazine for federation to kick in (which then still can take a bit of time). Same works the other way around. The unfortunate thing is that you kinda have to use external community / magazine indexers to search for them, unless you know the exact name & instance domain they're in, since a search won't find non indexed ones by itself.

Imo one of the largest issues regarding the fediverse.

It definitely does not block threads from those instances showing up. For example I have lemmy.ml blocked that way and I still get the occasional lemmy.ml threads pop up and have to manually block all the different communities on that instance.

That makes no sense to me. Imagine blocking users would work the same way and it would just remove links to their profile, but not the stuff the account posts.

What happened to embedded videos? (fedia.io)

For a while now all video threads are basically just opening a screenshot of the video when you expand them instead of opening the video itself. I noticed this both for YouTube and Catbox hosted videos and you now have to first open the thread itself, and then click on the actual link of the title to open the actual page where...

I just noticed that the overlap issue also happens with pictures apparently, or at least those thumbnail screenshot from videos. Unless you hover over the image (or redgif video), then it hovers into the foreground.

Yes. The default view just adds a lot of wasted empty space, useless icons and even more useless cut-off text previews which I don't see the point of.

Doesn't quite look like the same issue, but I trust your word that it got fixed and hope for the next release then.

Blocking instances on kbin / mbin does not work though. You will still see the communities threads & users (and getting to that page in the first place is a hassle too since there's no link to it).

It started to slowly work again around the middle of January but by the looks of it rather short lived...

Edit: I just now got the reply notification for this, 14 hours later. I think this might be on Fedia at the moment... Ugh...

One comment in one of the kbin threads of a guy who hosts his own forked instance said it's probably caused by a Lemmy update, which I guess makes sense. kbin and mbin aren't the same code wise (can't even use the nsfw unblur here), and kbin is also a version ahead of mbin so they might just handle the same issue differently. A lot of the magazines / communities I checked have their latest threads from like a week ago when viewed through fedia. kbin ironically has similar examples, but different ones to fedia. Whatever the cause, it obviously shines a negative light on any 'bin instance and to a degree onto the fediverse. For me, I would really like to avoid having to deal with the shitty Lemmy UI and support the Lemmy devs directly.

Instances like feddit.de are like almost 2 weeks behind now, with the last threads being from right at the end of the Holidays.

I'm subbed to https://fedia.io/m/dach@feddit.de and it has not caused any federation of the newly submitted stuff since then.
