I don't know of every instance of course, but from the general purpose ones the order of up-to-date from most to least at the time of posting would be something like: kbin.run, fedia.io, kbin.cafe, artemis.camp (specific API branch), kbin.social.
But there's also other considerations. fedia has a double post/comment issue and a low amount of 500s. Artemis has been giving me a lot of 500s, can't upvote anymore (just reloads the page), commenting doesn't always federate. Many instance admins seem to have disappeared since 3 months ago. I'm not sure what life is like on instances I'm not actively using so there might be issues unknown to me.
Edit: the keys that I look for are localization / ui changes. "more" dropdown now has "more from domain" on updated instances. The UI for the sidebar is different, and most recently the footer is differently styled. There's also the federation list of instances page in the footer now.
Same. Tried Lemmy.world and startrek.website and I just don't like the Lemmy interface as much. Thankfully it wasn't down long enough for me to have time to spin up my own instance.
I did try to resist the urge to refresh constantly to help ease the load.
A bug was filed about this issuefour months ago and ernest has commented on that thread, so he's aware of the problem. So far, no solution has been reached, which makes me as a moderator extremely demotivated. I don't want to put effort into building a community if comments that break community rules are federated but moderation is not.
Thanks for this info, I guess it's good to know it's on the to do list, but I completely agree, since realising this my motivation to post, knowing my moderation doesn't have any effect on a large chunk of users, has dropped significantly..
Is there a place to check for updates on this, is the post you shared it?
The good news is this was fixed in latest https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/1019 the bad news is it hasn't made it to kbin.social yet so hopefully whenever this instance is updated it will be fixed
Actually, this bug is the reason I started upvoting my own posts in the first place. However, I THINK it's been fixed for some time now though. I can see my posts sorted by hot on the magazine I post to without upvoting them.
Lemmy also has the automatic upvote? That is so interesting to know! Maybe there should be a standard protocol for this behaviour.
Is this thread monitored? Asking because, from what I observed, that federated Hexbear(dot)net users and communities don't seem to be possible to block. Or should I use the contact form?
I'd gotten a 50x error page when trying to submit this post, too - but it went through anyway? This post doesn't show up in my threads page, though.
I read back your earlier comments before I tried posting - I know you have other pressing matters on your plate. As you can see, I just created this user at artemis.camp, so that I can get those notifications ... maybe?
I'm able to see that post, do you see it in private browsing / when logged out? If so, you might be blocking domains on kbin.social and removing them would make it appear again. That's been fixed in latest which hopefully kbin.social users should get soon, but wasn't affecting other instances I had checked so you should be fine to do so on artemis
I can see the post when I go directly to it (with either the kbin.social or artemis.camp account), but it does not appear in my threads area under my kbin.social account (the one that posted it).
This a known bug, which has been fixed, but the fix hasn't been implemented on kbin.social.
The temporary work around is that you can't have and domains blocked. The link on e659668's post gives more details.
This will be fixed in the update planned for the end of September.
I think it’s pretty safe to say that the two terms are unrelated, and that most people on a non-Japanese-speaking community would not make that same connection.
"If the task are not done by the time allotted, I doth declare my resignation" bro you're a developer, not a politician. The fact you're actually giving us an update shows you're better than 99% of people who could replace you. Kbin isn't even in that bad a spot right now, considering the alternatives. You're doing fine, take your time to make sure whatever gets pushed out is up to your standards.
I did like 7 or 8 coffees for Ernest about two months ago when he was still very much visible and /kbin development felt like it was moving forward with big strides.
Feels like things have slowed down from the initial breakneck speed into something more "boring" and sustainable since then. But when the API is fully released another round of coffees or two is sure to follow - for Harriette as well when Artemis is usable for kbin.social.
Edit: I only saw Ernest's latest update now and appreciate his effort for openness. Here's hoping his private situation improves quickly and he doesn't feel like he is letting us (and himself) down somehow. He's doing good but a small heads up every now and then is much appreciated.
You're doing great Ernest, don't be so hard on yourself!
As for funding the project long term, if Patreon/Coffe/LibraPay ever stop being enough, maybe a Wikipedia-like style banner on the top of the page asking for donations could work? I think it's more than fair to remind people to help pay for the upkeep of the free project they use, and if they have a problem with it they can go fork (it) themselves!
