It's because it is backed by an already-known company that has made it big in the social media space. I personally would love to see what it would be like with #META making #Threads join the #Fediverse

This post on why lemmy.world temporarily adjusted federation abilities w/ kbin has a bit more insight, especially in the comments:

It's also probably cause spammers don't get (or care) federation at all. So in their mind gotta spam on kbin-->account on kbin.

@donuts Kbin and Lemmy support is a little bit janky at the moment, it's also kind of easier to view this from the microblogging / social side of the Fediverse.

Yes, but the problem is it doesn’t federate. A lemmy mod can remove spam on their lemmy community, but there’s no one to remove the spam once it federates to be on a kbin server. That’s why the science community seen on kbin is swarming with spam - the mods on lemmy remove it, but there’s no one to remove it on kbin, and no way for them to make someone on kbin a moderator for it.

btaf45, in Beehaw on Lemmy: The long-term conundrum of staying here

If the community is on kbin that the kbin mod removes the spam. If the community is on lemmy instance than mod on lemmy instance removes spam.

Isn't that how it works? The mod on the community instances removes the spam and then it gets removed on all sites right?

Why is this tagged as being written in Japanese?

stopthatgirl7,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Because my phone’s in Japanese and I forgot to switch the language when I was posting.
