@cacheson@kbin.social avatar

You can use the boost feature. Your boosts are public, but that's usually a good thing. Things you want to save are often things you want to promote, and vice versa.

Damaskox,
@Damaskox@kbin.social avatar

Yeah, this could be the closest to it.

Mars2k21, in To those genuinely interested in moderating
@Mars2k21@kbin.social avatar

Glad to hear this was added! Probably the feature I've been waiting on the most, ghost magazine issue finally has a resolution.

Prouvaire, in Does Kbin have the saving feature?

It's something that's been requested:

https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/352
https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/551

I imagine it's a matter of getting around to adding this feature.

liv, in To those genuinely interested in moderating
@liv@kbin.social avatar

Ahhh, I'm so disappointed, I've been working on @conservative for months, and really hoping to take it on,
and it looks like I missed out.

Back when I started they actually held a poll about whether my kind of nature content would be OK and it was voted yes, so I hope the new owner is pro-conserving things and doesn't purge it and turn it into just another US politics sub!

daredevil,
@daredevil@kbin.social avatar

Perhaps it's worth a shot to reach out to Ernest about that. It's very apparent that you're one of, if not the most consistent contributors to that magazine. Based off of a cursory glance, the person who took the ownership hasn't made any contributions. Best of luck.

liv,
@liv@kbin.social avatar

Thank you for the idea. I'm not sure how to contact Ernest?

daredevil, (edited )
@daredevil@kbin.social avatar

He replied earlier in this thread--you could try a DM to start. Alternatively, pinging him here may also be an option. I'm not sure which would be best. Apologies.

liv,
@liv@kbin.social avatar

Great news, he has sorted it out for me! Thank you for suggesting it!

@conservative is saved!

daredevil,
@daredevil@kbin.social avatar

That's fantastic news! I'm glad your hard work was recognized. :)

liv,
@liv@kbin.social avatar

Thanks! It's so nice knowing it won't all be deleted!

static,
@static@kbin.social avatar

Congrats, you deserve it.
I only posted there a few times, to bump down some posts from that annoying person.

liv,
@liv@kbin.social avatar

I remember you!!! Yeah that person was a bit hard to understand. Sometimes I couldn't see their posts.

I really appreciated you standing up for me about conserving traditions! :-) ♡

skepickle,
@skepickle@kbin.social avatar

Oh! You got moderator from me! I'm glad you got it. I liked what you did, and didn't get rid of any of your posts while I had moderator there. There were some old posts that didn't fit with the conservation/nature/culture theme... I'm glad it's in the hands of someone with a vision for the magazine. ;-)

liv,
@liv@kbin.social avatar

Hi! I didn't realise.

If you want to be involved there too, I can add you!

skepickle,
@skepickle@kbin.social avatar

Nah, you're doing a great job! I'll continue to enjoy it as a normal user.

You can bookmark the URL for a post or comment that you like in your browser, but there is no saving feature in Kbin itself, yet.

aeternum, in Does Kbin have the saving feature?

not at the moment, i believe.

Oooh this is so cool!

I started translating finnish language right away!

EDIT: 79 translations, 34 suggestions, 34 pending suggestions and 33 comments feels like heavy-duty for one session straight!

Damaskox, in PSA: Upvote is not an upvote like you are used to (like Reddit) - "Boost" is the Reddit Upvote
@Damaskox@kbin.social avatar

So...is the boost and the upvote info still valid?

Redhotkurt, in To those genuinely interested in moderating
@Redhotkurt@kbin.social avatar

Uh, how do I do this? The m/men community has been abandoned by its owner; I wanted to apply as owner, but it only had the mod option listed.

daredevil,
@daredevil@kbin.social avatar

Unfortunately, you'll need to either wait until the owner has not logged in for a month, or ask if Ernest will allow you to claim ownership early.

Source/more information here

Redhotkurt,
@Redhotkurt@kbin.social avatar

Thanks for the info, @daredevil.

Huh, guess it's worth a shot. Hi @ernest, any chance you could waive the month-long not-logged-in requirement for the men magazine? It would appear the owner has lost all patience with Kbin in general and made it clear he isn't coming coming back. I would like to resurrect this community as a progressive non-toxic space for men to engage in healthy discussion without resorting to punching down and insulting others, similar in nature to the old menslib subreddit. With your admin-powered blessing, of course.

daredevil,
@daredevil@kbin.social avatar

No problem. Something to consider though, is that simply moderating the magazine until it's "abandoned" by the owner may end up being the solution. I understand that may not be ideal. While I empathize with your situation, the rules that Ernest establish also exist for a reason. However, I also do not intend to speak on his behalf. I hope things work out for you either way.

Redhotkurt, (edited )
@Redhotkurt@kbin.social avatar

I'd be cool with modding it in the meantime, but it doesn't look like anyone (either me or @BaldProphet) has been appointed mod yet to step into that stopgap role.

a-man-from-earth's last post was a week ago, and I don’t wanna keep bugging ernest about this, so I guess I'll sit tight and run out the clock. This is not an emergency by any means, it's just one of the many abandoned communities that need help. Thx for the info and words of encouragement, @daredevil. And good luck with all the cleanup!

BaldProphet,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

I've also applied for moderator. I didn't even realize that community was abandoned, so now I'm wondering how many other communities I'm subscribed to have been abandoned.

daredevil,
@daredevil@kbin.social avatar

An "abandoned" magazine is one where the owner has not logged in for 30 days. You'll probably know when a magazine/community you're subscribed to is "abandoned" when applying for ownership of a magazine is enabled.

Another option I would like to see is the outright deletion of some of the very specific and abandoned mags.

Looking at abandoned list link supplied by @ernest (cheers for that and for all the work you have put in) there are ~4,000 abandoned mags.

While many are in need of new mods, there are a lot that just need to be deleted. They can be recreated in the future if they need is there but I doubt a lot will be claimed.

Maybe in a couple of months that could be looked into.

daredevil,
@daredevil@kbin.social avatar

If you find an abandoned magazine that you feel needs to be deleted, you have an option to request ownership and subsequently delete it. I requested ownership of one such magazine and I'm considering deleting it, myself. I may also consider doing this for some other magazines eventually as well to contribute how I can.

Pons_Aelius,

Good point. I hadn't thought of that option.

doc,

It may be worthwhile auto-deleting any with zero historical activity (no threads or microblogs) after a few months, too.

Pons_Aelius,

As a stop gap and when I have a few spare hours. I plan to request ownership for mags that have zero activity, and the current mod has been MIA for a few months.

Posting this here for now since codeberg seems to be inaccessible. I'll move it over there (if there's not already an issue on this) once it's back.

With the new update came edit labels, but the relative edit time seems to be wrong. After editing a comment, it says "edited in 2 minutes" and counts down.

edit: this seems to be a general issue with timestamps on kbin for me since the update. The comment creation time too, it seems to be set to 2 minutes in the future.

cormier-camilla196, in Option to put thread comment box above existing comments?

It's nice to be at the bottom. In this manner, you can reduce the number of people who show up and say the same thing without speaking to one another. basketball stars

Sort of like "listen before you speak" is ingrained in the design.

RealM, in Request: Remove ability to 'boost' your own comments and threads
@RealM@kbin.social avatar

Alternatively, upvote/boost your own posts by default when posting.

I've struggled with this question before myself. On the one hand, there is a notable impact in visibility on posts which I've self-upvoted versus posts which I did not self-upvote, so it does feel like an unfair advantage. On the other hand, I am also a community member in the community I post. I wouldn't post something, if I didn't think it contributes to the overall community. Plus, there's a bug in kbin going on, that new posts only show up in new but not in hot at all, until there is at least some sort of interaction (a comment, or an upvote, or a boost).

uphillbothways, (edited )
@uphillbothways@kbin.social avatar

I don't upvote/boost my own content on principle. What I've started doing instead when I notice it is boost every other top level comment in the thread to restore parity. That's the only way to make it make sense.

MeccAnon, in /kbin Issues
@MeccAnon@kbin.social avatar

Hi, not sure if this is the right thread but here goes.

Issue:
Threads do not seem to federate properly.

Description:
Until a month ago or so, submitting a thread to a federated instance (tested on: feddit.it, sh.itjust.works) threw an error page, but the thread was regularly posted. Example: https://feddit.it/post/1868675

As of at least 2 weeks ago, the error page remains but threads do not federate anymore. Example:
https://kbin.social/m/teoriamusicale@feddit.it/t/546143/Analisi-di-Pezzi-Pop-5-Faith-Hill-The-Way-You

If it can be of help, posts, links and comments seem properly federated to the same abovementioned instances, i.e. appear on target instances within a few seconds. No error displayed when submitting.

Hope this can be addressed sooner or later. Right now I'm using local accounts on those instances to work this around.

Prouvaire, in Request: Remove ability to 'boost' your own comments and threads

In addition to what PugJesus said, it seems to me that a single boost moving a post/comment to the top of the conversation is also a symptom of a bigger issue - which is that a lot of Fediverse communities are still very small. As a community grows in size (from dozens/hundreds of people to thousands/tens of thousands or more) a single boost should have less and less of an impact.
