Have now turned off the random sidebar elements using KES, but... kinda feel like it sucks having a cool feature like that turned off.

djidane535, in Kbin badly needs a facelift
@djidane535@kbin.social avatar

I share your concerns. I was optimistic at first because kbin looked very promising and the app was evolving pretty fast. Just reaching the point of a functional mobile app would have been enough for me, since we can federate with other communities for more content (before they decided to create their own instance, it was good enough for me).

I am pretty sure the project is on a good track, but in the same time, I think it will probably take 1 or 2 years before we have a good mobile app.

CoffeeAddict,
@CoffeeAddict@kbin.social avatar

It is pretty bare bones, but Lunar for Lemmy is adding support for kbin. https://kbin.social/m/lunar@lemmy.world/t/682006/Kbin-Support

Right now, it is only for iOS. I think there is another one being made for android. (I think ernest has included a link to both of these in one of his daily logs.)

Still, it will probably take some time before everything is polished.

djidane535,
@djidane535@kbin.social avatar

Seems promising, thanks for the info :).

Good ideas 👍

However due to the way activitypub works there is no way to know how many people on other instances are reading a post, only on the same instance.

You know that you can block any instance yourself on kbin?

ImADifferentBird, in Blocking and Downvote Stalking
@ImADifferentBird@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Honestly, I feel like blocking someone should prevent them from interacting with your posts in any way, or even seeing them. I would think that’s the entire point.

@violetmadder@kolektiva.social avatar

@wagesj45

Someone recently announced to me that they despise me so much they're blocking my whole instance. Okay.

But for some reason I still see their posts when people I follow boost them.

wagesj45,
@wagesj45@kbin.social avatar

Yeah. Blocking is hard for a federated system. And that's before the philosophical differences that have popped up in this thread on how blocks should work in theory.

ADHDefy, in I'm starting to see some serious downsides to being able to see who downvotes you.
@ADHDefy@kbin.social avatar

Agreed. I can see this being more harmful than helpful.

ADHDefy,
@ADHDefy@kbin.social avatar

I'm calling you out, @BadWolf 😂

Bizarroland, in I'm starting to see some serious downsides to being able to see who downvotes you.
@Bizarroland@kbin.social avatar

You should be able to block that user from interacting with you by simply clicking on their name and pressing the block button.

That will prevent them from downvoting future posts and if you have a negative interaction with somebody you can do that as many times as is needed to create the environment that you will enjoy participating in here.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Blocking people blocks their votes, and not just prevents you from seeing their posts?

Bizarroland,
@Bizarroland@kbin.social avatar

As far as I am aware, it prevents them from seeing or interacting with your account and prevents you from seeing or interacting with their account.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I know it doesn’t stop them from seeing you. They can still reply to you; you just won’t see it. So I’m not so sure it blocks their vote, either.

billothekid2,
@billothekid2@kbin.social avatar

I think this is correct.

ContentConsumer9999, in Some turbulence on the instance

Well, I haven't been that active today but I haven't encountered any issues yet so things seem to be going well, at least for me.

LeGaosaure, in To those genuinely interested in moderating
@LeGaosaure@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Hello, does anyone know if it’s possible to moderate a magazine hosted on kbin with a lemmy account? I’ve been taking care of a magazine hosted here for months and the owner is MIA as far as I can tell (I tried messaging them to no avail), but the adoption feature mentioned here doesn’t appear for me from the lemmy side. Given how lemmy and kbin are compatible-yet-different, I’d understand if the moderation features can’t cross over, but for now I just don’t know so here I am =) Thanks for reading!

livus,
@livus@kbin.social avatar

@LeGaosaure I don't think that we have cross-platform moderation yet but I'm pretty sure I saw @ernest say it will come.

In the meantime, you could always create a backup account over here and request ownership that way.

LeGaosaure,
@LeGaosaure@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Thank you for your answer! I suppose I’ll do that, then. So far the magazine has honestly not really needed moderation, but it’s always better to have someone ready before problems happen =')

livus,
@livus@kbin.social avatar

@LeGaosaure definitely, and that way you can create guidelines for posting. My tiny community worldwithoutus has barely needed any moderation so far!

LeGaosaure,
@LeGaosaure@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

In this specific case the community owner posted good guidelines before disappearing so we have that at least, but I’d appreciate being able to change the pinned message for example (current one is outdated), and the other community I adopted got a totally random troll post once so I now consider that these can pop absolutely anywhere at any time =')

livus,
@livus@kbin.social avatar

@LeGaosaure good luck with it. Is it LimbusCompany? I don't actually know what that is, but I've subscribed so I can upvote you.

LeGaosaure,
@LeGaosaure@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It is! Thank you very much 🧡 (Limbus Company is a turned-based strategy game with a heavy emphasis on story, and the less gacha-esque gacha to ever exist x’) )

@minnieo@kbin.social avatar

of all these beautiful features, gotta say the CSS styling on the mags is my FAAAAVVEEE. i love doing it. i kinda go overboard and need to reel it in, but the ability to personalize your mag is so fun. though, people should have an option to toggle mag styles off, they can be distracting or the best part about the mag lol (ㅅ´ ˘ `)

Can’t boosts count as bookmarks?

Damaskox,
@Damaskox@kbin.social avatar

I think it would depend on how you work with it.

If you use it only for bookmarking threads, then kinda yeah.
But if you just give thumbs up to stuff without ever returning later, then it would probably be difficult to find your bookmarks from between.

My personal opinion?
I'd rather keep them apart, cos I feel they are a different function and useful apart as well.
