HeartyBeast, in Last few days are the least functional kbin has been for me since the July exodus. Just me?

Things seem to be starting to resolve for me. I can now get to Notifications and to Newest.

Still getting errors, but now works on a retry.

BiggestBulb, in Kbin pages returning "404 page not found"
@BiggestBulb@kbin.social avatar

Same here. I've noticed it on the notifications page, the "All magazines" button at the top and occasionally when images load in my feed.

can, in Why don't kbin comments show up on lemmy servers?

19.1 federation issues?

bluGill, in Why are peertube channels federated like a magazine or a community on lemmy?

I don't think kbin is intended to work. While you can follow things, peertube does some different things that if not designe in will not work. It would be nice, but Ernst has a lot of other work

TheFederatedPipe,

@bluGill Yeah, it is completely broken with kbin. I understand there is too much to be done, I would not like to be on Ernest shoes right now, but this is an incredible project that is available for free, and is open source. Thanks for the hard work and all contributors!

sab,
@sab@kbin.social avatar

I think I remember Ernest mentioning at some point that better Peertube integration is on the todo-list, but there's of course more pressing issues out there.

Another related issue is a.gup.pe-groups, which could potentially be cool if implemented well.

There's also ongoing developments to add groups to Mastodon, which will probably set some sort of standard for groups in the Fediverse. It might make sense to wait until this is ready before putting too much work into supporting other types of groups, though at this point it's of course quite a bit of a different issue from Peertube support. :)

minnieo, in To all moderators: Here is how you can add banner using CSS very easily to your Kbin magazines!
@minnieo@kbin.social avatar

this is awesome! ive just been using the mag sidebar itself as a banner like in my alternative mag but this is a lot less loud. i love it!

attached pic is what i had tried before at the suggestion of someone who's name i am forgetting now, its cool but invasive and maybe not good for people with vision issues

TheGreenGolem, in Woooo collapse conversation button

These guys are doing so amazing work on all the instances, it’s inspirational to see.

Very nice, thanks.

Is there an example magazine that shows how this looks like?

I imagine something like this

Duly noted, I missed a line of text. Won't try to help in the future

Pamasich, (edited )
@Pamasich@kbin.social avatar

Better to use /m/cars which OP mentioned. I removed the image from mine, just leaving a red box as a reference for a codeberg issue. So it doesn't show how it looks with an image.

Yes, I mentioned in the above post with a "demo" man, please do read the post :)

In Field of Dreams the ghost voice says "If you build it, they will come.", but fails to say "Oh yeah, you have to look after it once you've done that. You're gonna need a ride-on mower."

Like many folks on aggregator sites, I'd create magazines / communities / sub-sites if it didn't mean I then had to manage and moderate them afterwards. (There are many things in life that fit this pattern.)

Rhyme criticism:

  • "-zines" and "weeks" is, well, weak.
  • "Arrives" and "cries" is slightly better, but not by much.
  • "Soul" and "foul" don't rhyme either, despite appearances.

Then again, maybe it's my own accent that's spoiling these?

@palordrolap
oh, the rhymes are quirky, and filled with joy :)

yes, creating a magazine is the easy part, whereas maintaining a magazine is a matter of discipline

Eggyhead, (edited ) in A case for preemptively defederating with Threads
@Eggyhead@kbin.social avatar

I’m not worried about dependency on content from threads. I’m primarily concerned with facebook’s data harvesting. I have a Facebook account, but I only touch it when I have to. All other aspects of my social life are pretty much divorced from Facebook. I fear that with federating, my activity will populate on their servers and they will feel completely entitled to all of it to train their AI and create advertising profiles without any consent. All of our activity will be free use for their profit.

I’d actually feel better if the process of federating required an EULA or something where the instance seeking federation must deny any right to use community content without explicit, signed permission from individual users.

null,

What’s stopping them from scraping your data from here right now? It’s completely public already.

Onii-Chan, in A case for preemptively defederating with Threads
@Onii-Chan@kbin.social avatar

Absolutely agreed. I came here to escape proprietary corpo bullshit, and if we don't defederate, I'll just stop using kbin altogether. I love it here, but that will change if Meta's grimy tentacles are able to take hold of the place.

Defederate.

static, in A case for preemptively defederating with Threads
@static@kbin.social avatar

Threads is the smaller player here compared to twitter/bluesky. and bluesky is a direct compeditor for activitypub with their own federation protocol.

So now Threads has to play nice to have any chance at all. A part of the fediverse pie is better than no pie at all.
I hope Tumblr joins too.

Smaller than X, yes, but it's already bigger than Bluesky. And with its Instagram integration it can be bigger even than X-Twitter.

They inflated numbers by using insta accounts, but few actally use it.

ripcord, in Where did Magazine search go?
@ripcord@kbin.social avatar

Well, crud. After searching for 20 minutes I guess I found it right after posting.

So now it's under "Collections", then you have to switch to one of the other tabs from there...?

DarkThoughts,

Is there some A / B testing going on? I still have Magazines in the top bar. Collections as far as I understood is simply a grouping of various communities & magazines that share the same related topics and I guess setting a collection as favorite will act like you subscribed to them (I haven't really used them before).

Pamasich,
@Pamasich@kbin.social avatar

Check if any userstyle/userscript is hiding it maybe? It's definitely still there for me, and I'm sure @ernest would have said something if he was A/B testing removing it.

Burger, in Kbin badly needs a facelift

The PWA UI is serviceable, but it could stand to be better, I agree. It just feels "clunky" IMO.

CoffeeAddict, in Feature Requests/feedback from a Kbin magazines' moderator.
@CoffeeAddict@kbin.social avatar
  • More optional applicable permissions to moderators when owners add them: Right now, when I add a moderator, they can only delete, ban and moderate posts in general, but accessing the mod panel is impossible unless you are an admin, so this means, moderators can't help owners with community rules, description, or even attach a new logo. There should atleast be some kind of supermod option or role that I could enable for the mods, so that this remains an optional but needed feature for some (and I am one of them).

This is something I have noticed. It would be nice to have the magazine panel open to more moderators than just the owner (though, I understand why it may have been set up like that to begin with.)

Also, are reports also submitted and viewed under the magazine panel?
