Question for you multi-social media sites people: what is your favorite and why? Mine is definitely the and my account, it is by far the richest experience on social media. feels awkwardly half-dead, half-alive, while is mostly an American wasteland.

@jynersolives no longer have Twitter and never signed up for BS. But I get far more diverse engagement here, with nearly the same number of followers as I had on Twitter. And this is with just two or three other people in my local area who have come over. There is no doubt in my mind that if Mastodon/Fedi had the same uptake locally as Twitter, I would probably have to start filtering 😆

@jynersolives my answer to an earlier version of this:
(For context I was on twitter for about 3 years, on Mastodon for 1, haven’t tried bluesky or threads)

"Twitter and Reddit may have only lost a few million users to Mastodon and Lemmy so far, but these are nation-sized numbers, comparable to what Scandinavia is to the United States of America. The incumbents have allowed the fediverse to reach critical mass. It's only gonna get bigger"

I feel like the reason , and the at large, aren't taking off has to do with the fact that they're actually social networks. People don't seem to want a social network, they want content platforms. People aren't using or or to keep up with their friends these days, they're using these apps to entertain themselves. And since and every other platform that used to be a social network began pivoting toward content promotion, I think society has forgotten what a social network is supposed to actually be anymore.

@Chozo I wonder if this bodes well for Kbin/Lemmy? Arguably their model is more about content than social relationships.
