I hope updates after this big one are gonna come more regularly and that smaller fixes aren't pushed to be included in big updates.
There's a lot of issues which have seemingly been solved a long time ago now but we don't have the fixes because it's all in the big update.

It doesn't feel great to have issues, some of them quite critical, go unfixed for this long and it's probably making people not use kbin as much which is dangerous if we wanna keep this place, especially at this early stage.

I'm of course very appreciative of the work being done and I'm looking forward to the update!

say, #fediverse, is peertube the only #activitypub based software that supports instance←→instance federation? i struggle with my peertube setup and would like to give another software a try. which softwares support instance-following as well? #followerpower

jonah,
@jonah@neat.computer avatar

@grindhold @hexmasteen it’s the only one I know of off hand, because PeerTube creates a fake “peertube” user which other AP instances can follow for the full feed. For example, you could even instance follow my PeerTube instance from Mastodon, by following @peertube. Most other AP implementations rely on relays instead of this psuedo-user approach, which both instance operators have to opt in to.

Working on private messages in #Smithereen and I'm wondering how much sense CWs make for them. From Mastodon's PoV, "private messages" are just posts. They thus share all the same properties. In my implementation, however, messages are distinct from posts, both in the UI and in the database. In my UI I don't have anywhere to display that content warning as a spoiler without it being super awkward. I can use it as a subject line however 🤔

Any thoughts?

Serious question, no offense or provocation intended: With this stuff being baked into Hubzilla and, apparently, also design-wise into Bluesky / AT, can anyone out here involved with the #ActivityPub specification process outline why nomadic / easily portable identity isn't built-in here by design? Looking at the (to-be-expected) dynamics of instances going up and down, blocking each other or moving to newer, different pieces of software, this seems an absolutely obvious requirement, so I wonder why this has been left out of the standard / spec?

An Indonesian court has rejected lawsuits filed by two plantation companies operating in the Tanah Merah mega oil palm plantation project in the country’s Papua region.

The ruling means the companies are legally required to stop clearing forest in their concessions and preserve what remains.

There's a social reading platform called @bookwyrm which is an alternative to Amazon's Goodreads. BookWyrm is part of the Fediverse, and BookWyrm accounts can be followed from Mastodon etc. You can find out more at:

They are currently trying to get BookWyrm translated into more languages, so that more readers can use it. If you speak a language other than English, you can help translate at:

I remember when the didn't take @pixelfed seriously and constantly made jokes about it using PHP, or when I missed self-imposed deadlines

I had to prove myself, constantly, and I admit I almost gave up a few times

All that negativity and hate, I used that as motivation to be better, not just for me, but for other devs

Maybe those haters were busy building fediverse tools like https://fedidb.org or https://fediverse.info

Who knows, anyways I'm still here, queer, and building!

"Twitter and Reddit may have only lost a few million users to Mastodon and Lemmy so far, but these are nation-sized numbers, comparable to what Scandinavia is to the United States of America. The incumbents have allowed the fediverse to reach critical mass. It's only gonna get bigger"

Beehaw is considering other alternatives to Lemmy due to its immaturity as software and their attempts at improvements being blocked/ignored by Lemmy developers. That feels ominous to me.

It seems like Lemmy is not close to being a practical Reddit alternative. To be fair, Reddit's enshittification forced a lot on Lemmy all at once. It didn't have a chance to grow organically.
