Klanky, in Is anyone planning to get Star Trek - Infinite? I never got into Stellaris, but this looks like it could be fun.

I am, I love Stellaris and have played the NH mod, but I like the idea of one essentially built from the ground up as a Star Trek grand strategy game.

I wonder how it’ll feel for someone like me who never played Stellaris.

Olgratin_Magmatoe,

If you’ve ever played a 4x game before, it’s not too hard to pick up. Stellaris is a fantastic game, and I’ve sunk quite a few hours into it.

With that said, sometimes they drop the ball on DLCs, and the late game gets bogged down/boring, so it’s worth waiting for player reviews to come back before getting it.

Cool! Didn’t know about it until now. I’m a big Stellaris nerd so this is interesting to me. But I’ll usually wait until a game has proven itself before getting into it.

I saw a video about it yesterday - I think just because my youtube algorithm knows I like star trek. It looks fun! And it’s not super expensive either.

I am now!

I’m getting this too, as well as some image posts occasionally not federating, and lots of error messages about “voting failed”, “failed to mark as read”, etc.

I know there were some expected temporary performance issues after switching hosts, but would that still be happening a week or so later?

xusontha,

Some of the image stuff for me is just my device caching urls that change, but I don’t know why so many urls are changing

I’m not getting the failed to vote thing, but maybe that’s because you are using startrek.website as your instance instead of another; probably just timing out because whenever I pull up the site it is always a bit slow to load

The_Picard_Maneuver,
@The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website avatar

I post a lot, and multiple people on other instances have messaged me this week complaining that our images show up intermittently for them too.

I don’t know enough about the technical side of lemmy to even hazard a guess though.

xusontha,

Yeah, all I can tell is that the url of the file on the server seems to be changing and devices are caching the old url. Using a different image hosting service like imgflip/catbox.moe/selfhosted image server for the image uploads would probably solve that problem, but that’s pretty much the extent of my knowledge

If you’re using Ublock Origin, disable that for your home lemmy instance.

I have a custom rule you can add to prevent that from happening (in lieu of disabling UBO), but it’s on my other computer. I can update post with that later.

xusontha,

I have all tracker blockers/adblockers/etc disabled on my personal domains, so I don’t think it’s that.

Looking at it closer, if I pull up a post on my instance and open the image in a new tab, it gives this link: https://startrek.website/pictrs/image/2f9f0c5e-c579-465b-a0cc-734ce953a3a5.jpeg

But when I go to startrek.website and pull up the same post, the image URL is different, it’s https://startrek.website/pictrs/image/7a02c5c7-9a8f-424f-9b56-f37664e6a8b8.jpeg

Even more curious is when I view the post on lemm.ee, since if I open the image in a new tab by clicking on the image, it pulls up the actual image but when clicking on the link to the image under the title it goes to the same wrong URL that my instance has

ValueSubtracted, in 100 days into strike WB television ‘suspends’ agreements with 6 major production companies.
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

This is significant, but probably not quite as significant as it would seem at first glance, if indeed the contracts are merely suspended and their terms will be extended once they resume.

On the other hand, it’s nice that the studios have dropped their “the strikes are saving us money” bullshit.

@Corgana@startrek.website avatar

Space Babies was very RTD but I actually thought it was charming and pretty fun. Ncuti has a lot of promise, too.

angstrom, in Episode Discussion | Doctor Who | 1x01 "Space Babies" and 1x02 "The Devil's Chord"

‘Space Babies’ was a classic RTD dumpster fire. It felt like a first draft and the exposition dump at the beginning was very badly done. The script editor should have pushed back hard on this one.

‘The Devil’s Chord’ was better although hamstrung by the fact that they couldn’t afford the rights to any Beatles music.

Ncuti and Millie have quickly established themselves and I’m looking forward to seeing what the rest of the season brings.

Oh boy, I cannot get behind that Capaldi slander.

The Chibnall/Whittaker era…I don’t think they’re are many people who would say it’s their favourite, but there were at least a few pretty good installments in there.

askryan,

I don’t know how you could get past Capaldi’s first series and not see what an incredible Doctor he is.

I tried so hard to like things in the Chibnall era –– I was so excited when Whittaker was cast and I think she did the best she could – but after reading Elizabeth Sandifer’s evisceration of the Chibnall ethos in her piece on Kerblam! (which I think also applies to ENT, tbh) I think I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m not really going to get there.

At the same time, “Demons of the Punjab” is probably a top 10 episode for me, I really love it.

“It Takes You Away” is delightfully weird, the New Years specials are generally pretty solid, “Fugitive of the Judoon” is pretty good even though the greater arc-stuff is not, and I have good memories of “The Haunting of Villa Diodati” and “Can You Hear Me?” even though I haven’t revisited them since the first run.
