@cloudless I want it gone. There is a button to make it gone that doesn't work. I would abandon it, but it's possible that it could be compromised while I'm not actively monitoring it. It's much preferable for it to be actually deleted, as promised (but not delivered) by the stupid button I pushed over a month ago.
@willya No, I'm bitching about one basic function of the site (voting being public) being obfuscated and the other (account deletion) being intentionally withheld. If you don't care, don't read it.
If you’re a European citizen, your instance is likely in violation of your right to be done forgotten, and you may want to point that out to an admin.
That said, if your instance doesn’t have any motive to respect European rules (i.e. if your instance provided your account for free, and so doesn’t have any money on the line), you may still be out of luck.
If you’re a citizen other places, you’re probably out of luck, until your home state adds better privacy laws.
@MajorHavoc I'm Canadian, I don't think we're very good about privacy here. I sent a contact form a few days ago. My next step is emailing as many addresses as I can find.
I should be able to delete an online account easily and promptly if that's what I choose to do
I quite agree on that!
There was one service I couldn't get rid of my info cos they required ridiculous amounts of work to do before they would have done so! It was frustrating...I gave up, they won.
@SLaSZT
I'm a bit late, but since no one seems to have given you an answer yet: Account deletion is currently manual and the instance's owner has been inactive since the year started. He came here every few weeks to remind us he's not dead yet, but otherwise it's been silence. Since account deletion is manual, that means there simply is no one there who could fulfill your deletion request currently.
I want to stop having my votes public and just make a new account on another site
Make sure not to switch to another fediverse site like a Lemmy instance. Lemmy hides the votes to its users, pretending they're private, but still happily gives them out to other sites like kbin to display or harvest.
@Pamasich Thank you for the information. It would be nice if Ernest were 10 people instead of 1, wouldn't it? I guess I just have to let this account go dormant, which I didn't want to do... but at least the password is unique.
