Quick note... some users are having issues with verifying registration if they miss the initial link. I was able to get kbin to resend mine by sending a password reset, but some users can't reproduce that. Just so you're tracking.

danielton, in /kbin Issues

My home feed keeps getting reset to "All" even though I changed the home feed to "subscribed" in settings. Am I missing something?

ernest,
@ernest@kbin.social avatar

mobile / desktop?

danielton,
@danielton@kbin.social avatar

Both. I'm using the site on mobile and on desktop, not an app. My settings reflect that my default feed is set to Subscribed, but it gets reset to All whenever I go back to the home page, regardless of whether I change it to Subscribed from the home page or in the settings.

theinspectorst,
@theinspectorst@kbin.social avatar

I'm having the exact same issue - home is set to 'subscribed' but when I go there it shows 'all'. I'm getting this on mobile (both Chrome and DDG).

Checking "Hide Adult Content" doesn't actually seem like it blocks threads from nsfw magazines. When browsing threads by "newest", I definitely have multiple explicit pictures from explicit magazines (gfur, petplayyiff, & feralyiff?) I'm not subscribed to show up.

EchidnaMode,

Yep, having this problem too. Just had NSFW magazines showing up in the Random list, plus still seeing porn showing up in search results. The "Hide Adult Content" box is definitely checked, and saved.

tojikomori, in /kbin Issues
@tojikomori@kbin.social avatar

This comment thread is behaving very strangely right now: comments with the same ID are showing up multiple times in different places, and I just received a notification about a reply that I don't see in the thread.

tojikomori,
@tojikomori@kbin.social avatar

Looks like this has sorted itself out now!

ernest,
@ernest@kbin.social avatar

It should be fixed. If you could note it down and let me know, please :)

tojikomori,
@tojikomori@kbin.social avatar

Yep, it's fixed. Thank you!

Sarsaparilla, in /kbin Issues
@Sarsaparilla@kbin.social avatar

Hello Mr @ernest

I think this is an issue, or perhaps I'm missing something somewhere?

When I receive a reply notification and click the person's reply comment, it doesn't take me to the comment in the thread, but rather to the beginning, and I have to scroll through the conversation to find my post and the replies to it. Unless I'm doing something wrong, this is going to become problematic in large active threads.

I click on their words in the notification message (as the timestamp is not a link), the comment highlights and even shows the comment number in the link for the post, but does not take me to it, even if I right-click/open in a new tab. Someone in another thread suspects this happens once the thread/and comment moves onto the second page of the thread (but making it infinate scroll doesn't fix it either).

edit: I should add that I'm on Desktop

goji, in Is there a way for a user to block an instance?
@goji@kbin.social avatar

You can use the url structure kbin.social/d/instance.com

From there you can use the block function

I don’t know if it’s bidirectional, though

    The root path for kbin is currently always "all". I actually have a PR up right now to change this to what people actually expect to happen.

    Can't seem to hide threads at all. Would love to see this, or have up/downvoted threads also dissapear like the reddit functionality has.

    wakasm,
    @wakasm@kbin.social avatar

    I agree. Once a comment gets like 20 replies it can be pretty unreadable. Have my updoot.

    Nougat, in /kbin server update - or how the server didn't blow up

    I hoped that a few stray enthusiasts would find their way to kbin

    They did. "A few" as a portion of the whole, where the whole is much larger than you ever expected it would be.

    One thing I have learned in my own technical career is that you can't do everything. Even if there was enough time in a day for you to do everything, you can't know everything, at least not sufficiently enough to be most effective. You have to depend on other experts, and delegate to them what you are not qualified to do. This requires a pretty high level of trust, and makes it so that you need to develop people management skills.

    Lots of technical people are short on people management skills. I don't know where you sit on that spectrum, but you may need to consider bringing on an "overseer," kind of like a project manager, to keep tabs on all of the technical resources involved - yourself included. This will help ensure that concerns are prioritized appropriately, and that communication and messaging about those priorities are consistent and clear.

    I've been in that kind of position, and I take a bit of pride in my use of words. I'm happy to give any advice you like.

    hariette, in UPDATED: There are now multiple iOS / Android apps in development for kbin & lemmy!
    @hariette@kbin.social avatar

    Not much love for Kbin! </3

    But I get it, without an official API, it's a lot of work to get one going. I just refuse to use Lemmy, so I'm committed on getting a Kbin app ASAP. We're just about to have alpha.1 build ready and it's pretty darn usable.

    Plugging our magazine here:
    https://kbin.social/m/ArtemisApp

    EDIT: me not going w Lemmy was due to devs. I still think it’s a viable platform for the fediverse, especially with all the instances out there besides theirs (and being open source). Kbin being completely separated just felt like the right choice for me when picking between the two.

    jiji,
    @jiji@kbin.social avatar

    I much prefer kbin to lemmy so I really appreciate you putting in the effort! I put myself on the alpha list and I look forward to it. :)

    leftbones,

    Why do you refuse to use Lemmy?

    printerjammed, in /kbin Issues
    @printerjammed@kbin.social avatar

    Maybe I don't understand but my reputation points always say negative. I did the math myself, i have lots more updoots than dislikes. Am i not understanding reputation maybe?

    blazera,
    @blazera@kbin.social avatar

    its the same for everyone. upvotes dont increase reputation.

    dumbyoyo,

    Is this by design or a known issue?

    "What's the diff between n upvote and boost ? "

    Shortcake, in PSA: Upvote is not an upvote like you are used to (like Reddit) - "Boost" is the Reddit Upvote

    the dev of kbin will be changing this. so up/downvotes are what affect your reputation. It's just not a priority right now

    BedSharkPal,

    Do we know if there have been any releases since the influx of users? Or are they just focusing on backend stuff still?

    There's still a lot of long hanging fruit *COUGHcollapsingthreads that would be great to have addressed sooner rather than later.

    You can have a look here to see a test instance with some of the things that are coming, Ernest (the admin) has been merging in a range of tickets including bug fixes, UI improvements and other bits.

    There seems to be an ever growing backlog of feature requests and bug fixes in the issues list but a fair bit is getting sorted out behind the scenes.

    I'm mostly focused on UI/UX for mobile.

    @dannekrose@kilioa.org avatar

    @HamSwagwich

    This is a result of the original design. Kbin, up until just before the peak traffic hit, was using boosts as upvotes and favorites/likes were just below the post/thread (where boost sits now). Lemmy does it the way it is now (likes = upvotes) so Ernest changed it to match Lemmy behavior. But just as he changed it, he hadn’t changed the calculation for reputation to match when the server nearly melted down and he has to spend all his time just trying to keep the site alive by himself.

    He using an optional feature that lets you auto populate your reply box with the OPs username.

    garrettw87,
    @garrettw87@kbin.social avatar

    Yes, but my bigger point is that it’s not threaded as a reply to one of that user’s comments.

    Edit: Oops, nevermind. I saw their comments elsewhere down here but didn’t realize they were OP. Just one of the interface things on Kbin that needs improvement.

    Edit 2: I need to figure out how to do strikethrough text on here

    artillect,
