Thanks to that Mike Masnick @mmasnick link I just shared on the (sorry Bluesky people it won't propagate over the bridge but this will) I learned that Hamish McKenzie, Substack co-founder, was integral to lining people up to sign the "anti-Substackers-Against-Nazis" letter. As Mike stated so well, "McKenzie literally organized the 'we support Substack supporting Nazis' letter signing campaign. Which, again, he’s totally allowed to do, but it calls into question his claimed neutrality in all of this. He’s not setting up a 'neutral' site to host speech. He’s created a site that hosts some speech and doesn’t host other speech. It promotes some speech, and doesn’t promote other speech. Those are all choices, and they have nothing to do with supporting free speech."

OK Enough playing with the new Friendica...back to the tasks I am supposed to be doing. The Bluesky bridge, the thing I've been looking forward to the most seems to be working very well. Posts from Friendica shows up there, with proper segmentation if longer than their paltry 300 character limit. Following an account from the Friendica side propagates over to the Bluesky Account. Reshares/likes/comments on Bluesky posts done in Friendica are properly reflected there. Reshares/likes/comments on fediverse posts do not show up over there, as expected. The Bluesky content is not federated to other fediverse servers, as expected. I can't even get it to come up with a direct link search. So all thumbs up! The only hiccup I've found so far is posts that are reflected from Friendica to Bluesky seem to show up in Relatica as from my Bluesky user when they are split up. Still overall excellent work to everyone that worked on it, especially @heluecht

Hey . Not to brag or anything but now has its own versions of and where you can filter just video, just audio or just pictures. A few bugs need to be hammered out with images in the css department but the hard part is all done.

I'm super excited about the #Fediverse. I've been online since the 90s, been through most evolution stages of the internet, and it feels like we're changing it once again - and this time in a good way.

Quoting this post anonymously because I don’t want to be the one to burst their newly reformed bubble. However I believe the honeymoon’s almost over with Threads entering the space, regardless of their intentions. They’re just too massive of a player not to shift the power dynamics in their favor.

People have long been angry at Gargron for sucking most of the Fediverse attention towards Mastodon through no particular fault of their own, and I believe it’s about to change, and not necessarily for the better.

For fringe projects like #Friendica, it won’t change much though, we never were prominent in the space and Threads’ arrival will not change that. @heluecht ’s willing, we’ll start supporting the new API quirks Threads will inevitably put forth and leave the decision to interact with Threads or not to Friendica administrators and individual users.

petrescatraian,

@anubis2814 the global feed is already filled by Mastodon posts fwiw (at least on my end). When Reddit had the crisis in summer, Lemmy threads came to fill the space. I would certainly not be surprised to see Threads taking the place of both when their federation will go live.

anubis2814,

@petrescatraian @hypolite @heluecht I don't mind the rest of the fediverse filing the global feed, that's kind of the point. Threads is just so much more massive we will never find anyone from the fediverse if you fully federate with threads

I‘ve updated my blog post about the interconnectivity of Fediverse services with a new table. There are still many gaps where I need to test more but here we go for now:

This inter-connectivity analysis of the different Fediverse services is a great resource!

Your efforts to test all these modalities is really impressive. Thank you!

The latest beta of the Relatica mobile and desktop Friendica client, version 0.9.0, has just been released. Along with a slew of small bug fixes and tweaks this release now has a mechanism for viewing, filtering, and exporting the log events generated by the software. This will help users interact with developers (well me right now) in diagnosing problems on their system. This release also has the long requested feature of opening up tag searches on the user's home server not the remote server when they are clicked on. This is available for Apple and Google stores for those in the test program (ping me if you want access) and should have approval in the next 24 hours. Direct downloads for Android, Linux, and Windows are available from the install page. #relatica #friendica #fediverse

Just a heads up. The latest Friendica is going to have some nomenclature changes for Groups (now called Circles) and a reordering of action buttons on posts/comments to align with the order other sites use. Along with some other bug fixes and tweaks, I'm updating Relatica to reflect that as well. #relatica #friendica #fediverse
