Fine. Let her appeal. I’ll enjoy reading about her losing again.

peanuts4life, in "We can’t afford to have children:" low pay and a high-pressure environment drive exodus of US wildfire fighters
@peanuts4life@beehaw.org avatar

My coworker is a wildland firefighter who operates out of our office in Hillsborough County, FL. (I work in conservation and environmental lands management) He makes $15.5 an hour and has to go to food banks to feed his kids plus is probably going to lose his house. He takes every opportunity to work overtime on burns.

Wildland firefighters are exposed to known carcinogens in the course of thier genuinely dangerous job. It is industry standard to use a bandana as face protection.

Poor men and women, sometimes prisoners, sometimes soldiers, are ground up and spit out in that line if work. In any just system we would pay heros a living wage. In this one we just let them die, broken and pennyless.

wait are you saying there are stores in France who look out for their customers first? i mean this sounds dangerously close to respect for their customers at least..

Stores make more on inflation than shrinkflation.

ImplyingImplications, in Judge delays trial for Trump, others in Georgia 2020 election prosecution

Georgia will likely run into more problems like this. Their RICO case against Trump and his gang of bandits is massive, involving 19 defendants charged with racketeering, 41 predicate offences split across the 19 defendants in order to prove they were involved in racketeering. Not every predicate offence involves every defendant. Most of these predicate offenses involved many more people than the 19 defendants and happened entirely outside of Georgia. Several of the predicate offenses focus on speech and political activities which is going to be incredibly difficult to argue isn’t protected by the first amendment.

This case is massive and messy which means it’ll probably be a very long time until it ends.

JelloBrains, in Rep. Lauren Boebert was escorted out of 'Beetlejuice' over reports of rude behavior

So much for the report that they wanted to tone down the craziness of the campaign to make her more electable.

ono, in What to Know About the New COVID-19 Vaccine

The updated vaccine will be the first COVID-19 shot to be distributed in the way most vaccines have in the past, prior to the pandemic, on the commercial market for around $120-$130 per dose, rather than purchased and provided for by the government. That means that pharmacies and doctors’ offices will purchase the vaccines at their own cost and get reimbursed for the shots. Most insurers, including Medicare and private companies, will continue to cover the vaccine, without co-pays, since it is recommended by the CDC.

I honestly can’t remember when I heard that name the last time since i don’t use reddit anymore.

admiralteal,

Honestly, it's probably best to remember these people if you're politically engaged. They're the ones representative of the future of the Republican party. They're the ones who are pushing for all this fact-free Biden impeachment stuff. They're the ones who want to make sure teens are pregnant and trans people are dead. They're a window into a future of the country -- what little we have given their idea of governance -- that will happen if we let them.

You do realize you can walk right up to that counter, point to the good stuff, and they'll just give it to you right?

They didn't just put it behind the counter to be pretty back there.

Not after 9.

btaf45,

Just put pseudoephedrine back over the counter again. Christ.

Absolutely. Pseudoephedrine is the real cold medicine. People were saying from the start that phenylephrine didn't work. I almost never used it.

Anti-choice = anti-God

These despicable "pro-life" scumbags don't know what they're messing with.

Quexotic,

There’s a counter argument to that, something that echos in my head when I think about the shit they do:

The cruelty is the point™

Anticorp,

Ya know, I’ve never thought about that before, but free will is a central theme throughout Christianity. It’s used to explain away all the evil in the world and the story of Adam himself. You could even say it’s a core fundamental belief of the religion.

Snorf,

Also, the ability to be “absolved” of all bad choices. You get to say sorry. As long as you do that before you die, then you’re all good.

If they really believed all of this, then the “would be child” is safe from damnation and the mother can say sorry.

I do not believe this and do not think a person should feel bad about taking necessary steps to protect their lives.
