Most of the communities with significant spam problems have no moderators other than ernest. It's up to him to recruit more people to help moderate those.
I requested to be added as a moderator to m/opensource, which is one of the worst offenders right now. Hopefully Ernest will accept some of the requests that people are making.
I think it's actually a good thing that there aren't a ton of moderator applications. It means the userbase aren't the same basement dwelling keyboard tyrants that Reddit had. Still, right now we could use more mods either way.
Most of the magazines being spammed in right now only have a single moderator, and it's Ernest. He needs to appoint additional moderators for magazines that he is the only moderator of.
By dismissing OPs concerns about harassment and suggesting OP is at fault because their opinions "suck", you are suggesting that OP is at fault for having the wrong opinions, and thus deserving any harassment they receive.
Is the fediverse a technology or an ideology? The... fundamentalism I am seeing around the issue of Threads is a little disturbing. It feels kinda culty.
I've also applied for moderator. I didn't even realize that community was abandoned, so now I'm wondering how many other communities I'm subscribed to have been abandoned.
Ernest said he didn't introduce bad code on purpose:
I assure you that I didn't intentionally push incorrect code into the repository. These were my first lines of code in a really long time. I simply got involved in other things that I wanted to finish first, and I noticed the edge case in the meantime, but it wasn't a priority.
