Feeling thwarted by the 404, I suddenly remembered there are plenty of curated feeds over in Collections for us to browse. Have updated one of mine to reflect newer communities.
No, he's not. Kbin was recently down for a week. Then voting and comment counts broke. Before all that I had to get into the habit of reloading the page I was on every time I wanted to vote on something. It's a terrible user experience.
That's not to say I don't like him or he's not a good dev or whatever. Just that people have limits and it sure seems like he's bumping against his.
I appreciate that earnest made a post yesterday, or maybe it was the day before, saying that he is not dead and hasn't given up on kbin. It's not on this magazine, so I'm not sure where it was since this seems to be the most appropriate one, but in any case....
Ernest is dope, figure that's worth repeating, probably the hardest working man in open source social media right now
I really like the UI a lot compared to other fediverse alternatives
I like that I can see both blog posts and threads from one app
Kbin users seem to be more balanced than many lemmy instances which seem to foster groupthink and brigading.
Features seem to be rolled out based on community feedback, I made a post a long time ago about abandoned magazines and was pleasantly surprised to see a method of reclaiming ghost magazines included in a recent update.
This is a result of the original design. Kbin, up until just before the peak traffic hit, was using boosts as upvotes and favorites/likes were just below the post/thread (where boost sits now). Lemmy does it the way it is now (likes = upvotes) so Ernest changed it to match Lemmy behavior. But just as he changed it, he hadn’t changed the calculation for reputation to match when the server nearly melted down and he has to spend all his time just trying to keep the site alive by himself.
But I get it, without an official API, it's a lot of work to get one going. I just refuse to use Lemmy, so I'm committed on getting a Kbin app ASAP. We're just about to have alpha.1 build ready and it's pretty darn usable.
EDIT: me not going w Lemmy was due to devs. I still think it’s a viable platform for the fediverse, especially with all the instances out there besides theirs (and being open source). Kbin being completely separated just felt like the right choice for me when picking between the two.
If you're encountering the Subscribed 404 error, this is a good time to revisit Collections (kbin.social)

Do the "Ernest needs to add more maintainers to KBin!" comments remind anyone else of the xz social engineering malarkey? (kbin.social)

Here are mine! A handful of things come to mind right away, but there are plenty more:...
Nothing to see here, just join lemmy promoting a pedophile instance. Not a good look for the fediverse (sh.itjust.works)

PSA: Upvote is not an upvote like you are used to (like Reddit) - "Boost" is the Reddit Upvote (kbin.social)
Like the title says, if you want to upvote something on KBin, you should use the Boost link, not the upvote button (Why? Don't know...)...
UPDATED: There are now multiple iOS / Android apps in development for kbin & lemmy! (kbin.social)
The amount of apps being developed for iOS / Android is getting really crazy now and new apps keep popping up every day. Updated list below:...
