It seems like the hype for #Lemmy is over. The few communities I followed are either abandoned or fed solely by bots.
What a shame. Going back to #Reddit is not an option either though.
@db0 Reddit was the place where I got my NBA news and rumors. The biggest NBA community !nba was somewhat active in June/July. Now there's a new post every 5 days with de facto no discussion. I think moderators have left and so the majority of users.
I wish things were different.
@derthomas Ye a lot of this relies on having at least one passionate user to push kickstart thing and keep it alive long enough. The piracy community for example is thriving compared to reddit.
@derthomas In my experience, all it takes is one dedicated poster to get things going. You can try to crosspost stuff from reddit when appropriate, which will attract more people. No easy solutions except doing something about it.
@derthomas Be the change you want to see in the world. I’m here (in the fediverse) to stay. I may have slowed down with submitting but I’m still here and dedicated to making it work.
Ps. I mod a ton of communities under my other handle: demesisx@infosec.pub and I’d welcome a fellow metalhead to mod some of them.
@derthomas What about kbin?
It seems to me that non-Mastodon Fedi projects are not really gaining traction, most probably because their commercial counterparts have not gone down so spectactularly in flames like X, thus masses are not looking for alternatives.
Of course, I may be completely wrong and projects like Funkwhale may be thriving.
