Corgana, in Willie Mays - the 'Say Hey Kid' considered baseball's best all-around player - dies at 93
@Corgana@startrek.website avatar

RIP. I love that he is Star Trek canon.

ValueSubtracted, in StarTrek.website will be down for about ten minutes June 25th at 10AM CST while we do some maintenance in anticipation of updating to Lemmy 19.4
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

But my takes will be lukewarm by then, at best…

This update should increase the thermal capacity of your takes by .05%

Coincidentally, but entirely unrelated, nobody ever leglaly watched any Comedy Central, CMT, or MTV content ever again.

They probally figure they can put a lot of this (or already put a lot of this) on YouTube and split the profits with Google. Cuts down on overhead.

In Canada, some shows such as Key & Peele, Chappelle, and Reno 911 are still available on demand on Pluto.

There’s also one Star Trek channel with TOS and TNG.

thegr8goldfish,

We have that in the states too but they show the same commercials in every commercial break. They are so repetitive, I can barely get through a single episode.

I’m excited at the update. However, I am experiencing a small issue. I use the i386 theme. However, the color scheme (and nothing else, like fonts or borders) has reverted from its usual blue to the default dark mode colors. I tried clearing my browser data to see if that would clear things up, but Shaka when the walls fell. I don’t know if this is an upstream issue (which is my guess) or something else, as I am inexperienced with Lemmy infrastructure.

Otherwise, it’s all working fine. Thanks for your efforts, and glory to your house!

Have you checked your user settings? It’s possible that the update reverted your preference to the default. i386 should still be available.

Never mind, I did some digging, and it looks like something has changed and/or is broken with the theme itself. I’ll keep an eye out for a possible solution.

ValueSubtracted, in ‘Star Trek’ Alum Jonathan Frakes to Direct Sci-Fi Adaptation of ‘Arthur C. Clarke’s Venus Prime’
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

I’m not familiar with Venus Prime - it’s apparently based on the short story Breaking Strain, which has been spun into a novel series by Paul Preuss.

Corgana,
@Corgana@startrek.website avatar

Thank you for posting this. I am a big Arthur C Clarke fan and had never heard of it, and my google-fu turned up nothing.

StillPaisleyCat,
@StillPaisleyCat@startrek.website avatar

‘Venus Prime’ is the way the novelizations were branded and marketed starting with the first book ‘Breaking Strain’ in 1987.

As you can see from the cover image, it was an early example of the ‘hot babe with powers’ marketing approach.

Her hair even goes white-blond as of book 2. LOL

I have observed elsewhere that no women are announced in the creative team. I hope they get a strong female-presenting A-list lead who insists on EP status.

This is great news for Frakes.

He was on the upswing as a director until the debacle of the Thunderbirds movie basically made him unemployable.

Star Trek has enabled him to get back into directing work, and even some acting.

He’s been picking up directing work beyond the franchise over the last few years, but an EP supervising director role for an entire limited series adaptation of a prestige author is definitely a step forward.

This is very cool, and will hopefully encourage more journalists to be active on Mastodon.

It had such promise, then the two largest instances sold out their users to Meta like chattel.

The fediverse needs to be far more hostile to commercial social media.

Personally I like being able to follow Threads accounts without exposing my info to Meta.
