ciferecaNinjo,

Thanks for the investigation and tips. I was able to see it by querying the substring you mentioned.

I didn’t even think this thread herein posted. Got the 500 error a couple times when posting here and in mdev, and gave up. I forgot that error 500 often happens /after/ the task executes, hence some dupe threads.

ciferecaNinjo,

Not sure if this is related but I just received a notification for a new reply and it turned out to be a quite old comment from 5 months ago:

https://fedia.io/m/homeimprovement@lemmy.world/t/173551/Most-chimneys-in-my-neighborhood-are-open-thus-water-enters#entry-comment-3109852

I block all mags from all Cloudflare instances. So sometime after posting to homeimprovement@lemmy.world I blocked it. I still get notifications (which is good), then I unblock it just to read the response then re-block. That’s not likely related, but something happened in the past couple days that apparently caused a “seen” flag to get unset. It’s not in itself worth chasing up but maybe it’s a clue as to whatever happened.

ciferecaNinjo,

Ah, thanks for the tip. I see how it works now. Indeed it seems to be per-magazine and not per-instance. I’ll update the bug list.

ciferecaNinjo,

You’re right, but my boycott against Microsoft makes Github a no-go, and my boycott against Cloudflare makes that matrix instance unusable to me. Though I have to admit I’m not too familiar with Matrix. Is it possible to connect to a non-CF matrix node and reach people who are on matrix·to?

ciferecaNinjo,

Today it works. The Notifications page also works now.

ciferecaNinjo,

Was there any data loss? The comments tab of my profile only shows 11 comments which only go back 1 week (perhaps to around this “we’re back” thread). I should have much more than that.

ciferecaNinjo,

I just got a 500 error when trying to post a link to https://fedia.io/m/unanswered then I retried. Got another error 500. Then I later discovered that the post was actually successful (in fact two copies of the same msg were posted). So I deleted the dupe.

When a user sees error 500 and they give up, they expect and assume the whole transaction has failed. I could have just as well reattempted 10 times, given up, meanwhile visitors think I’m attacking the mag.

ciferecaNinjo,

I’ve retried several times, even with a long delay. I also tried re-entering the thread (which is often the fix for kbin-specific failures) and that did not work either.

(edit)
Note that to send this reply to you here in this pure kbin mag I had to submit twice. But in that even many retries makes no difference. I would love to have a text-based client about now.

ciferecaNinjo,

Is this a Cloudflare problem?

I guess not. Today I was able to post there.

Though there’s another odd behavior: my profile shows all my own posts except the posts in that thread. But I do get notifcations if someone replies to me in that thread.

Every other Kbin user seems to be posting comments just fine.

I don’t see how you could know that. If someone is blocked, there’s no metric AFAIK.
