Enterprise: Where are the strange new worlds?

I recently finished Enterprise season 3, and oh gods that was a slog at the end. Like 5 plot-heavy episodes in a row! No fun, no whimsy, no exploration. It’s the least star-trekky I have ever seen Star Trek. So I finished it, and thought “can we see some strange new worlds now?” And then Archer was taken prisoner by nazis...

I have the same problem with SNW, to a lesser extent. Too much klingon war stuff, not enough strange new worlds.

Considering that Strange New Worlds has almost nothing to do with the Klingon war, I’m assuming you’re talking about Discovery Season 1?

Your complaint about SNW is really odd though. I mean… there’s like one episode about the Klingon war and a handful of references. It doesn’t focus on the Klingon War at all outside of that one episode. You have maybe 65 minutes of Klingon War content (the episode + references) out of 1200 minutes of Strange New Worlds. That’s like 5%. To ask for less is to outright ignore the impact that the war had on the characters and their experience from it because to ask for less is to erase either that episode or off hand references.

Anyone know the singer for the Klingon portion of 'We Are One'?

I know that the utterly incomparable Bruce Horak came back not as Hemmer but as the Klingon for this episode. However the singer, was that Bruce too? If so then I’m genuinely shocked. I thought for sure that it was Weird Al. It sounds almost identical. If it’s not Weird Al himself then it’s a pitch perfect double....

Hi! I hope this is the right place to post this, but I’m having trouble receiving the images from this instance on my home instance, this is what Risa looks like for me in the browser and in the app (I use liftoff). I’ve tried the suggestion in the FAQ of disabling adblock/adding a rule, but that doesn’t seem to solve...

The only thing I’ve heard of fixing this was something they mentioned on their Mastodon, but it looks like you may have already done that with the adding a rule thing. Adding it here just in case it’s different than what was in the FAQ or for others who may have the same issue and this does fix.

I’m doing some Googling myself, just to try to lend a fresh set of eyes, but my god there’s like no examples of the client side of this issue. Everything I find is Admin level. Damn. Hopefully Xusontha has an answer that can help later.

I’m seeing a lot of blank images when looking at posts from startrek.website through Lemmy-UI, but when I look through Photon/Sync the images are there. It seems to only affect images uploaded directly to startrek.website instead of images uploaded to a separate website. Is there something I can do to fix this on my instance?...

Mass Effect is pretty top tier for me too. I know you said Trek-like but Star Trek Bridge Crew is a ton of fun. Or at least it was. Number of players has ramped down significantly after Ubisoft dropped support.

Oh fuck. Hard question. I’m gonna answer with a couple because I can’t really rank them. That being said, they’re all in my top 10. Special shoutout to the last one.

  • Event Horizon: Just a good ol’ science fiction horror movie. I buy into the fan theory that it actually takes place in the early years of Warhammer 40k Universe.
  • Galaxy Quest: This is almost cheating. It’s not Star Trek but it has been called ‘The Best Star Trek movie’ so take that as you will.
  • Rocky Horror Picture Show: Could technically be classified as a science fiction movie. Just saying.
  • Moon: Sam Rockwell is a fantastic actor. Kevin Spacey is in it as a voice only role so that does ding the movie but it’s well worth it. I didn’t even recognize it was Kevin first time watching it. Performance from Sam Rockwell is incredible.
  • Hitchhikers Guide (2005): It gets a bad wrap because it’s not the greatest adaptation but it’s still a fun movie nonetheless.
  • Sunshine: Highly recommend not watching any trailers going into the movie and just enjoying the ride. If you don’t consider anything else on this list, consider this movie. Exceptionally well done. Stars Chris Evans, Cillian Murphy and even got good ol’ Michelle Yeoh in a considerably less evil role than Mirror Georgiou. The only thing you need to know about the movie is that its set not that far in the future. The Sun is dying and there’s a plan to restart the sun by flying a nuke into it the size of manhattan. Not a word of a lie, that is literally the plan. Don’t look up anything about the movie, just enjoy it. Trust me.

Don’t sleep on Sunshine!

Also yeah Rocky Horror has a strange storyline so it could technically be classified as a sci-fi. It’s… odd. I love it. Best seen with strangers in a theater during Halloween though. There might be a showing near you. There’s usually at least one going on for it. Encouraged to throw shit at the screen and yell at the cast. It’s fantastic. Also tell me this song isn’t a fucking banger. Imagine the whole theater singing along to that. It’s a trip and I highly recommend trying to see it that way for your first time. If you tell anyone at one of those viewings you’re a RHPS Virgin you’ll get treated really well and they’ll be gung ho to get you in on the fun.

If you don’t enjoy it then I will be truly and genuinely surprised. Especially in that fashion. It’s not a ‘good’ movie by any means but it’s a great movie. It’s a disaster and I wouldn’t change a thing.
