Media companies should just focus on making high quality entertainment instead of preaching politics. I think it's obvious the damage it's done to their brand by not adhering to that principle.
Is it? It's obvious that it upset the people who run the state of Florida, but high quality entertainment very frequently comes bundled with some kind of politics, because that entertainment is usually a snapshot of the feelings of the people in the age that created it. I'm not sure which properties you find preachy, but the last thing I remember conservatives being upset about was a gay kiss in a Buzz Lightyear movie or something.
Disney knew what they were doing and that it went too far or they wouldn't have made this statement. The company never cared about LGBTQ, diversity or feminism, they were just pandering and it backfired.
They knew that they were implementing a gay kiss because there's such a thing as gay couples in the world? Including parents of plenty of kids who'd go to see that movie? What part was too far?
If I were to guess, people have a problem with sexuality and what they consider advanced sexual topics, on the nose diversity, and feminism at the cost of incompetent or subservient male characters being in their family films.
I think people prefer content such as Toy Story, Bugs Life, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, etc. These were good films that had a universal, moral message without having to do with politics or controversies.
Is it an advanced sexual topic when a hetero married couple, like a child protagonist's parents, have a similar quick peck on the lips? Because if so, that seems overly prudish, and if not, the people who have a problem with it can grow up. To my knowledge, having not seen the movie, that kiss was really only showing that they had someone important in their lives, and I know that Bo Peep could get away with kissing Woody in Toy Story 1 with no controversy at all. There's also still politics within Monsters Inc and Finding Nemo without looking very hard, and I seem to remember the extremely political Wall-E being wildly popular with audiences and critics, even if I didn't care for it.
It's okay to be prudish when it comes to families and children. They don't need to grow up. If you want to make movies that are not overly prudish and targeted at children you are more than welcome to. No one is stopping you.

In the history of nations there's never been a more sure-fire way to lose democracy than making an enemy of the military complex propping it up. So Congress ought to be careful too, keep a little plausible deniability for themselves.
If a private, but not secret agency has access to the physics and can't engineer it, there's a question of why. As much as we'd like to disassociate engineering from discovery, they're linked together. Engineering leads to further observation leads to discovery and vice versa back the other direction. It's entirely possible there's "new physics" at play even if they're only theoretical to the Discovery Channel right now. Who's to say, really?
So while I'm not gonna disagree with you, and you're right there's a difference between engineering technology and physics itself, I still don't really see the distinction as that important to the discussion here.
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic, after all. We're talking about exactly that level of technology, commonly being called physics-defying by many engineers today. That's magic to common understanding, for all intents and purposes, even if it's possible that we could all eventually understand and demystify it given the education to do so.
Until then? Hard to close doors other than just "do we need this for the story". And aliens don't need to be there, hence my whole line of thinking above. That's just another example of "any secret is the exact secret I want it to be" kind of thinking. Yes the pricing is not for locals. Its for tourists that fly in. Lots of people fly in for Disney in Orlando and Miami for beaches or cruises. Now a tourist can hit both cities without flying again or renting a car.

I live in Texas and there are so many small towns that seemed to have forgotten trees exist outside of the trees planted in a private yard. I have only lived in Dallas as far as bigger cities go, but the trees are mostly located in the richer/older neighborhoods. Trees planted next to the curb and cared for by the city are almost non-existent.

As for your friend, I don’t know if it is only a change once I got older, but you will almost never be able to change your friend’s mind. I’ve had conversations along those lines with libertarians many times and there is a distinct lack of logic when discussing government. It’s not worth your time. I may be a bit exhausted by politics after the last eight years.
