Where do you fall politically?

I’m hoping this doesn’t start a fight, I’m just curious what the political orientation is of this community. I grew up in a liberal (in the American sense) family, and I identify now as a socialist, though a lot of the liberalism I grew up in has stuck with me, like interest in LGBTQ and women’s rights, environmentalism,...

startrekexplained,

And I would like to add that NO GOVERNMENT EVER has any say about what goes on in one’s body.

I don’t agree with this, I mean governments regulate what goes in our bodies all the time. Food safety standards, anti narcotic laws, etc

startrekexplained,

Where in the EU are you from?

What's the consensus here regarding Babylon Five?

I have the series on DVD but I’ve never seriously cracked it, only seen a few episodes. Was wondering what people here think, is it as good as the internet often says it is? I know it was an inspiration for one of my favorite franchises (Mass Effect) and The Orville had a cute reference to it by making its main actor the...

startrekexplained,

Thanks for the heads up. Is Season Five bad or just not as good?

startrekexplained,

Thanks for the detailed response, I’ll start with season 1 then. I like how Tomalak is in the show :D

startrekexplained,

Never saw Andromeda either, should try it out as well

startrekexplained,

Will do

startrekexplained,

B5 looks a lot cheaper and cheesier than TNG, especially as it uses really bad outdated CG-I. I also imagine it was just a lot lower budget. Im strictly talking about aesthetically from what Ive seen on YouTube. Also I don’t think Ron Moore was influenced by B5.

startrekexplained,

Yeah Kevin Sorbo is some Christian fundie now who does anti-atheist propaganda, lol

startrekexplained,

Which is why i said its outdated

startrekexplained,

I actually prefer 2010, which puts me in a very small minority but 2010 is one of my favorite sci fi films

startrekexplained,

Haven’t seen that yet, obviously should though as I liked the TV series

startrekexplained,

It’s the perfect life form

startrekexplained,

I’d love to see them both in theater

startrekexplained,

Yeah I love the pre-cgi age because special effects actually age well when they’re not computer generated, at least if done well.

startrekexplained,

Event Horizon is legit one of the coolest movies I’ve ever seen. Galaxy Quest is one of the best Trek films ever ;)

Haven’t seen the rest, and didn’t know Rocky Horror was sci fi, now i really gotta see it to see what all the fuss is about.

startrekexplained,

Never seen the original The Thing, should one day because its remake is like my favorite sci fi/horror film.

Gotta see the other two too. Thanks for reminding me

startrekexplained,

I’ll find a group here in PHX that watches it and ask to join them :) Can’t wait to see it

startrekexplained,

It sounds like my kind of experience :D

startrekexplained,

I gotta see that film, heard very good things about it

startrekexplained,

Just looked it up, a Soviet film which probably means its a very arthouse film so that should be interesting.

startrekexplained,

For me it was the opposite. Alien disappointed me and Aliens lived up to the expectation (actually saw Aliens first though)

startrekexplained,

I sometimes wish I was older (I was born in 1989, after a lot of my favorite movies came out).

Star Wars (The Last Hope)

A New Hope :P Though it was just called “Star Wars” originally

startrekexplained,

I’ve heard of Solaris, never seen it. Yeah I ignored the Hollywood remake, and have heard the original Soviet version is basically Russia’s answer to 2001.

startrekexplained,

I can see why it would be jarring to call the original “Episode IV”

startrekexplained,

Will certainly check it out :)

startrekexplained,

I’ll try to do it tonight or this weekend :D

startrekexplained,

I’ve heard The Man From Earth is really good, I gotta try that. Will add Fantastic Planet too since I’ve seen good reviews of it. I’ve seen bits and pieces way back in the day on premium cable and I remember liking it.

startrekexplained,

Forbidden Planet is really good to this day. Thankfully never been remade.

startrekexplained,

Donnie Darko was surprisingly bad

startrekexplained,

It was too weird
