The good news is they’re still talking, which is a big improvement over the recent status quo.

Doctor Who's 60th Anniversary Celebrations Begin November 25 (gizmodo.com)

The three episodes will drop weekly starting Saturday, November 25, with the release of “The Star Beast,” followed by “Wild Blue Yonder” on December 2, and “The Giggle” on December 9. The special episodes will be the first as part of a major broadcasting deal between the BBC and Disney to stream exclusively outside...

No, it’s just a global licensing deal.

Their Samsung TV app only works on 2 of my 3 (fairly new) Samsung TVs. And even on those two, the experience isn’t exactly great.

On the other hand, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is a pretty good show.

[support] Has anyone else been having trouble interacting with Lemmy off and on these past few days?

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I’ve been experiencing quite a bit of sluggishness and errors (failure to post, failure to mark as read, failure to fetch comments, etc), my feed seems to get stuck for long periods of time without updating, and any time I try to open my profile view, it can take a full minute (it might be...

I can confirm that you’re not the only one experiencing intermittent sluggishness, and we’re aware of the issue.

We still need to determine whether it’s a problem within our control, but we are aware.

What did he say about what he thinks of the strikes?

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

He’s responding to claims that the company has benefited the company, which is well within the realm of what a CEO would be expected to talk about.

The ony thing that approaches an opinion about the strike is the statement that he wants to resolve it soon, which…horror!

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

As far as I’m aware neither he nor anyone from Paramount are part of the negotiating committee.

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

That’s true, he could. But I’ve seen no evidence that he’s actively fighting the union’s demands unlike Iger, Zaslav, and Sarandos. I’d love to see evidence to the contrary if it exists, though.

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

By pretty much all accounts, Netflix cancelled it.

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Yeah, Paramount’s CEO, Bob Bakish, seems to have largely sat the strikes out, only popping up in the news once or twice to say he wanted to see them resolved. It’s interesting.

Anyone know the singer for the Klingon portion of 'We Are One'?

I know that the utterly incomparable Bruce Horak came back not as Hemmer but as the Klingon for this episode. However the singer, was that Bruce too? If so then I’m genuinely shocked. I thought for sure that it was Weird Al. It sounds almost identical. If it’s not Weird Al himself then it’s a pitch perfect double....

I think they would likely have significant storage and bandwidth needs - more significant than the examples provided.

The word “easily” is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.

If you’re looking to discover communities, I do recommend !wowthislemmyexists.

With luck, this means they’re also willing to negotiate with the actors.

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Even if they wipe the continuity, which is still very unclear, is it really fair to call it a “complete reboot” when they’re using the same cast for the most prominent roles?

Ideally, other VFX houses across the industry will follow.

This is the official Lemmy documentation for text.

I don’t think indented sub-items are possible in a list, but there may be some wizardry I’m unaware of.

Tables are possible, but can be confusing. You might find this helpful.

what is the “URL” field at the top of this post for?

That’s if you want to share a link to a news article or video or something, rather than create a discussion post. Your post will automatically provide a link to that URL, and will also try to generate an appropriate title that you can use if you want (generally by grabbing the title of the page you’re linking to).

How do I make “minor separations”, where you have multiple paragraphs, then a paragraph with more white-space between it, but not like a header or a line. It’s related enough that I want it connect, but separate enough that I want some separation

I’m not sure if it’s exactly what you have in mind, but I find a triple dash to be a good minor separator.

How can I make Paragraphs have indents? (I know they aren’t needed grammatically anymore, but in some cases, a paragraph just doesn’t seem “right” without an indent…

I don’t actually know if this is possible…

@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Also, what happens if you fill out the text, and put a URL at the top?

Your post will basically include the link, along with a text box for you to add whatever context or commentary you wish.

Good question - this one’s a little case-by-case.

If the focus of what you’re discussing is specifically Star Trek, the general c/StarTrek community would be fine. If you’re looking to get serious and in-depth with it, c/DaystromInstitute would also work.

If the primary focus is on the real world and the Trek connection is more tangential (examples: “cell phones were inspired by communicators” or “this new medical device is kind of like a tricorder”), it’s probably more appropriate for Quark’s. But there are some edge cases in there, and we’re unlikely to be fussy if something ends up in c/StarTrek instead.

If I have questions about general usage/ support of this website (startrek.website), what’s the correct community?

This one right here - Quark’s.

If I am not sure of a rule for the website, where should I ask

Same as above, if it’s a general question about rules and not an appeal of a specific mod action.

If I am not sure of a rule for a specific community, where should I ask?

We’re still deciding on the best solution to contact an entire mod team, but for now, reaching out to a community moderator directly is probably the way to go.

Where should I ask to find a community on a specific topic?

Quark’s would be the place for this, as well.

Related to 1, where should I have put this post?

Right where you put it was the right call!

Also, what about questions about Lemmy?

taps the “Quark’s” sign

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

You can find the moderators for each community in that community’s sidebar - just head to their profile and message them. This would be the process for both questions about community-specific rules, and appeals of moderator actions.

The downside to this solution is that the message is only guaranteed to be seen by the moderator you messaged, rather than the entire mod team, but we can and do communicate with each other as needed.

This is significant, but probably not quite as significant as it would seem at first glance, if indeed the contracts are merely suspended and their terms will be extended once they resume.

On the other hand, it’s nice that the studios have dropped their “the strikes are saving us money” bullshit.

So, setting aside things like the episode count being off by two, Swapna Krishna is a freelancer, not a BBC employee, and is pretty prominent in the Trek space, and in fact has multiple bylines at startrek.com.
